NLIS Cattle Tags — Electronic EID Ear Tags for Australian Producers

Farm & Acre Co supplies NLIS-accredited electronic cattle ear tags from Allflex and FOFIA, delivered Australia-wide. Every cattle producer in Australia is required to tag livestock with an approved NLIS electronic identification (EID) device before animals leave their property of birth. We make it easy to order the right NLIS cattle tags online.

What Are NLIS Cattle Tags?

NLIS cattle tags are electronic ear tags containing an RFID microchip that stores a unique identification number linked to your Property Identification Code (PIC) on the NLIS database. They're mandatory for all cattle movements, sales, and transfers across Australia.

There are two types of NLIS cattle tags:

  • Breeder tags (White) — applied to cattle born on your property before they leave for the first time
  • Post-breeder tags (Orange) — applied to introduced cattle that don't already have an electronic tag, or animals that have lost their original tag

NLIS tags must be placed in the animal's right (offside) ear.

Cattle DNA Testing & TSU Tags

Many producers combine NLIS tagging with tissue sampling for genomic testing. Allflex TSU (Tissue Sampling Unit) tags collect a DNA sample at the same time as tagging, saving time during calf marking.
