NLIS Tags NSW — Cattle RFID Tags & Sheep/Goat eID

 Quick rule snapshot (NSW) - Cattle: Must be identified with an approved NLIS device (electronic RFID ear tag, or rumen bolus + visual tag combination) before movement off a property. - Sheep & goats (eID transition): NSW is transitioning to individual sheep/goat eID under the national rollout (see dates below). - PIC: Tags must be ordered/printed for the PIC they’ll be used on. Sheep & goat eID rollout in NSW (key dates) - From 1 Jan 2025: sheep and farmed goats born on/after this date must have an accredited NLIS eID before leaving their property of birth. - From 1 Jan 2027: all sheep and goats must have an accredited NLIS eID before leaving a property, regardless of age.

NLIS approved Visual-only ear tags will be removed from the market - producers can continue to buy and use management tags, but no visual tags will bear the NLIS logo after 1 January 2027.

NSW note on older stock (important) In NSW, animals born in 2024 or earlier can continue to move with visual tags until the transition deadline (check your situation and destination requirements before moving stock).
