Quick rule snapshot (TAS) - eID: Tasmania is implementing sheep/goat eID in stages: from 2025 for newborns, then broader deadlines to 2027. - Tag colours: Tasmania recommends following the national year-of-birth colour system (2026 is orange). - PIC: You need an active PIC before ordering NLIS devices. Sheep & goat eID rollout in Tasmania (key dates) - From 1 Jan 2025: newborn sheep/goats require an NLIS-approved eID. - From 1 Jan 2027: all sheep and goats leaving a property must be fitted with eID, regardless of age. Tag colour note (helpful for farmers) - 2026 year-of-birth colour is orange (recommended colour system).

NLIS approved Visual-only ear tags will be removed from the market - producers can continue to buy and use management tags, but no visual tags will bear the NLIS logo after 1 January 2027.
