NLIS Tags SA — Cattle RFID Tags & Sheep/Goat eID

Quick rule snapshot (SA) - Cattle: NLIS devices include white breeder tags (property of birth) and orange post-breeder tags (introduced stock / replacements). Cattle tags are applied to the offside (right) ear. - Sheep & goats (eID transition): staged rollout runs to 2027 (see dates below). - PIC: Order tags for the PIC where they’ll be applied. South Australia note: Cattle Industry Fund contribution In South Australia, cattle owners who purchase permanent identification devices (tags) must pay a $1.50 per tag contribution to the Cattle Industry Fund.
Sheep & goat eID rollout in SA (key dates) - From 1 Jan 2025: sheep and farmed goats born on/after this date must have an NLIS-accredited eID before leaving their property of birth. - From 1 July 2025: saleyards must scan eID-tagged sheep/goats and record individual movements. - From 1 Jan 2027: all sheep and farmed goats leaving a property must be identified with an NLIS-accredited eID tag.
Sheep and goat eID is available in pink as a post breeder.
NLIS approved Visual-only ear tags will be removed from the market - producers can continue to buy and use management tags, but no visual tags will bear the NLIS logo after 1 January 2027.
