A 16" bar tells you the length, but the chain has to match three things: pitch, gauge and drive link count. On 16" saws the common combos are 3/8LP .043 (1.1mm) on smaller Stihl-style saws, 3/8 .050 (1.3mm) on a lot of non-Stihl gear, and .325 pitch in .050 (1.3mm), .058 (1.5mm) or .063 (1.6mm) depending on the brand. You'll usually find the numbers stamped on the bar near the mount, or printed on the box your old chain came in. If it's worn off or the numbers don't make sense, send us a photo of the bar stamp or the old chain and we can usually work it out pretty quickly.
