3/8 .063 (1.6mm) Chainsaw Chains
After a 3/8 .063 (1.6mm) chainsaw chain? You're in the right spot. This is the Stihl-spec setup, 3/8 pitch running a .063" (1.6mm) gauge, and it's one of the most common combos on full-size farm and firewood saws. Stihl-spec 3/8 .063 (1.6mm): get the gauge right
The .063" (1.6mm) gauge is the thickness of the drive link, the bit that rides in the bar groove, and it's the gauge most Stihl saws are built around in 3/8 pitch. Run a chain that's too thin and it rattles around; too thick and it won't seat. So the gauge has to match your bar exactly. The 3/8 pitch (the spacing between the rivets) suits bigger bars and heavier cutting, which is why this combo turns up on a lot of 18", 20" and longer saws doing serious firewood and clean-up work. Pitch and gauge get you most of the way, but the chain also has to be the right length, and that's the drive link count, not the bar inches. The same 20" bar can take a different drive link count depending on the brand and mount, so don't guess off the bar length alone. Count the drive links on your old chain (the teeth that sit in the groove), or send us a photo of the bar stamp and we can usually work it out pretty quickly. Order the wrong length and we'll sort it, we'd rather get you the right loop than have you fighting a chain that doesn't fit.
